Sydney Driving Lessons, North Shore and Northern Beaches

Skills Beyond is a small, family-owned mobile driving school. Avin teaches every lesson himself in a dual control car, comes to you at home, school or work, and builds your confidence at your own pace.

No obligation and no pressure, just a straightforward chat about what you need.

Meet Avin

The Same Instructor, All the Way Through

Every lesson is one-on-one with Avin, working at your pace rather than to a fixed script. He gets to know you first, then builds each lesson skill by skill, only moving on once you are comfortable with what you have already learned.

That continuity is the real strength of a small, owner-taught school. The same instructor who taught your first three-point turn is the same instructor sitting beside you before your test, so there's no re-explaining your nerves, your habits or your progress to somebody new halfway through.

More About Skills Beyond

How it works

How Lessons With Skills Beyond Work

If you are the person learning to drive, rather than the person booking the lesson, it is completely normal to feel nervous before your first session. Avin has taught many first-time drivers who felt exactly the same way, and you will not be thrown straight into busy traffic.

  1. 01

Get Comfortable Before the Car Moves

Your first lesson usually starts with the basics. Adjusting the seat and mirrors, getting a feel for the pedals and controls, and simply becoming comfortable behind the wheel before the car moves.

  2. 02

    Quiet Streets, Then Busier Roads

Avin picks quiet, low-traffic streets near home for those opening minutes, then gradually introduces skills such as give way rules, roundabouts, lane changes and busier intersections as your confidence grows.

  3. 03

    No Set Timetable

There is no set timetable. If you need two or three lessons on quieter streets before attempting a hill start or a busy intersection, that is exactly how the lessons will progress. There is no pressure to move faster than feels right.

Logbook Hours

  • Learners under 25 need 120 logged supervised hours before their driving test
  • Eligible professional lessons can earn extra logbook credit under Transport for NSW rules
  • The structured lesson credit applies to up to 10 professional lessons

Areas We Cover

Skills Beyond is a mobile driving school, which means your lesson can start and finish at your home, school or workplace rather than at a fixed driving school location.

Because your lessons take place on local roads rather than around an unfamiliar driving school, you learn on the actual roundabouts, hills and streets you will be tested on and will keep driving long after you have passed.

Our Hills District coverage includes Baulkham Hills, Castle Hill and Pennant Hills.

Not sure whether your address falls within our coverage? Get in touch and we will let you know before you book.

Your choice

Manual and Automatic Lessons

We teach manual lessons in a dual control car. Automatic lessons are also available in your own vehicle. Both are charged at the same per lesson rate, so there is no extra fee for choosing manual.

Manual

Manual lessons run in the Skills Beyond dual control car. Some learners choose manual from the first lesson, others move across later once they feel more confident.

Automatic

Automatic lessons run in your own vehicle, at the same per lesson rate. They suit learners who want to focus on steering, road awareness and decision making before thinking about gears.

There is no right choice for everyone. Either way, the instructor and the lesson structure stay the same.

Lesson Bundles, Not One at a Time

Lessons are offered in discounted lesson bundles, not one at a time, with the per-lesson rate falling as the package size increases.

Booking a bundle is not only about receiving a lower rate. Because Avin teaches every lesson himself, booking a block of lessons up front means your progress carries over from one session to the next instead of starting again with someone new.

There is no need to commit to a large package before you have had a lesson with Avin. You can start small and add more lessons when you are ready.

How Most Learners Start

  • Begin with a smaller bundle while you get comfortable with the car and the basics
  • Add more lessons as your skills improve and the test gets closer
  • Move into the Licence Test Package once you are ready to book a test date

What our learners say

My instructor drew a plan to help me pass the driving test and gain skills to keep me safe on the roads. Every lesson helped to make me a better driver, I was proud to pass the Driving Test on my first go.

Melissa

Skills Beyond Driving School was responsible for my two other siblings passing the Driving Test on our first attempt. My instructor did a brilliant job, and I passed on my first attempt.

Josie

Learning to drive was nerve-racking. I tried lessons with my parents, and it was hard. After my first lesson with Skills beyond, I was amazed at how easy it was with the right instructor. I now have my P's.

Finn

When I started my driving lessons with Avin, I was 35 and a very nervous driver. Avin is a skilled and competent instructor and mentor, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Skills Beyond to anyone.
